Hi Karen
An idea I had for my research project was the Portland cinema. The facilities need improving as they are run down and old. In practically every movie I have seen there it has stopped, skipped a scene or had lines running down the middle. I once watched a movie with no sound! I think that one way I could show the problem to others is using photography to show the state of the cinema, interviewing people on what they think about the cinema and writing down the things that happen in various movies. From this, I hope that the Portland cinema will be improved.
Thanks, Rachael

Issues in this area – Parents don’t trust the teenagers in this area!!! They treat us all as if we all have bad reputations and that we have to watch our back 24/7! They also try to plan our future, we have to learn ourselves what we want to do, not them. Parents also keep us in because they think that when they are not there we get ourselves into trouble! Sometimes we have to make mistakes for ourselves. In my opinion parents just need to chill out and let us do what we want. I’m not saying we don’t need parents there for us, they just need to give us some breathing space.

Sounds like a great project - one of the other groups is also looking at the hamilton cinema maybe you can share notes? Some background and history on teh cinema would be great to. I wonder why the movies are so bad when played- need to interview the projectionist i think!!
How many peopel go to the cinema- how often? You could see if the cinema could help out with statistics through their ticket sales- when is it most popular?
Cheers Karen

This is obviously a concern for you - so how are you going to research around the issue?
Maybe you could interview some parents about what their concerns are and maybe the youth about why they think their parents are concerned?
Myabe you could also connect to some kids in different locations and ask them if it is the same for them?
I know in my work with the youth in inner city their parents are very worried about their safety as well as the mischief kids might get up to and this means kids are very seldom allowed to go out alone. Finding out what the reasons are would be useful and then to compare what the reasons are and the actual risks...

Hi Dyllan
Sounds interesting... is Little Dartmoor a special place in Dartmoor for you? Would be great to present some thoughts of your own about why you have chosen this place and what it means for you.

some questions we will ask
Survey questions
1 Do you think the Melville courts are safe?
2 If they reopen will you play on them?
3 Does the government need to space them out.
4 Have you been hurt by these courts or have any relatives.
5 will you have anything to do with them.

Hey Karen
I've started my research on the Portland Cinema. Are these ok for survey questions?
What do you think of the Portland Cinema?
Do you think that it could be improved?
How do you think that it could be improved?
Hope they're ok!
Thanks Rachael

Hi Rachel;
Yes they sound great - maybe also include a question about their experience of the cinema- when can they remember first going to the cinema- what did they see???) how often do they go to the cinema.. what role do you think a cinema has in a comunnity like Portland? Cheers karen

Hi Karen my name is Katie from Heywood and District Secondary College and I am in year 7. For my project I am going to do it on Rundells Horse Riding School. I’m doing my project on Rundells because I have been riding out there for about 6 years and now I help out there and it is a great place. Also it is a great experience for me with horses. To research this I am going to interview the owner Brian Rundell and maybe interview some of the people that work out there. To present my project I am going to write out the history and add the interviews and pictures.

Hi Katie
The project sounds like a really worthwhile project. Remember to include some information about your experience and why you like going to the horse riding schools so much. It is interesting to consider that for city or urban youth it would be so much harder to have the type of relationship you have with the riding school - how do you think it will impact on your life for the future? My two girls use to work at a local horse riding school when they were young and absolutely loved it - the adventures and tales they still talk about together as sisters even though they are 20 and 22 now. Do you have your own horse? My girls didnt own a horse but they had their favourite horse which they called their own!
Best wishes - enjoy it!! I am sure some of the youth from other countries will really enjoy reading your story and seeing some pictures of the riding school and the local area! I just thought I thinnk it would be gerat to take a camera on a ride and take pics at strategic places and then relay that on a map for us so we can go on a virtual ride with you through the pics... what do you think? Cheers Karen
